Everything you need to know about the Isis Mobile Wallet Launch later this month

Isis Mobile Wallet talk has been going on for months. Whether it be what phones are compatible or other carriers and companies they are working with, Isis Mobile Wallet has been on a lot of minds. According to some leaked documents, the launch date for Isis will be October 22nd.

For those who don’t know, Isis Mobile Wallet is a mobile NFC payment system that was created by T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T. It will compete directly with existing mobile payment systems like Google Wallet.
The plan is to eventually include it on all T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon phones to prepare for when mobile payments are mainstream. With it you’ll be able to load all of your payment cards and use them for mobile purchases.
The test launch will take place in Austin, TX and Salt Lake City, UT. The phone of choice will be the Droid Incredible 4G on Verizon. We already knew that, though. Verizon has already pushed the update that prepares the Droid Inredible 4G for the launch of Isis. So it’s only natural it be the test device.

So what do we need to know about Isis Mobile Wallet?

If you don’t live in Salt Lake City or Austin, nothing right now. If the test launch goes well, the involved phone carriers will start making plans for making the service accessible everywhere. All phones with NFC chips can use Isis Mobile Wallet and just need a quick software update in order to do so.
For now, the only carrier that is flipping the switch is Verizon. Presumably, the other carriers will follow suit once Isis Mobile Wallet has been properly launched. Additionally, the only phone that will be provided the service is the Droid Incredible 4G. Verizon is actually having a little sale to help move things along. According to Droid Life, “From October 22 to November 20, you can buy an Incredible 4G LTE and receive a $50 Visa Pre-Paid card. From what we understand, you will have to activate Isis and submit a rebate form in order to get the card.”
Everyone else will have to be patient to try out Isis Mobile Wallet. However, it is a good thing that they’re rolling it out slowly. This way they can do better quality assurance and fix bugs on a smaller scale before rolling it out to everyone. Once it’s out, will you be using Isis Mobile Wallet? Let us know!
