Huawei preparing to launch six new smartphones in early 2013?

It looks like Huawei is gearing up for a major launch of several new smartphones in early 2013, both for the Android and Windows Phone platforms. While we don’t know everything about the upcoming smartphones, it is believed that there will be four new Android devices and two phones that run on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.

The Windows Phone 8 offerings are the Ascend W1 and Ascend W2. These two Windows smartphones represent the company’s first push into Microsoft mobile OS territory. Both handsets are expected to arrive in early 2013, on the heels of other WP8 smartphones like the Nokia Lumia 920. Not much is known about these Huawei Windows Phone 8 smartphones as far as actual hardware specs are concerned.
As for the Huawei’s Android efforts, the company is said cooking up the Ascend D2, Ascend P2 and the Ascend Mate. While we’ve heard about the Ascend D2 before, the Ascend P2 seems to be something new. The P2 is believed to feature a screen under 5-inches with a quad-core processor and at least 1GB of RAM. As for the Ascend Mate, there is a lot of debate as to whether it even exists. Rumors claim the device is supposedly a 6.1-inch monster phablet, but there is also a possibility that the so-called Ascend Mate is really just the 4.5-inch Honor 2. Until there is more concrete evidence, I’d take the existence of the Mate with a grain of salt.
For now we can’t say which markets these devices will hit for sure (or even if all of them exist), but with Huawei’s relations strained with countries such as the United States, it is certainly possible the devices will largely target the Asian and European markets. Keep in mind that’s just speculation at this point.
