LG Optimus G2 specs begin to surface, include a 5″ display and Android 5.0

All things considered, the LG Optimus G smartphone is still a new device. After all, the handset has only been available for a short time now. And while many know and understand that the world of smartphones is moving rather fast, it still comes as a bit of a surprise to hear talk of the follow-up device. Yup, the interwebs have already begun to talk about the LG Optimus G2.

In this case we have some details which have recently surfaced in the Korean media. More specifically, an article posted on the Korean language news.mk.co.kr site. Aside from the fact that this is interesting because it seems to have arrived rather quickly, the Optimus G2 also appears as if it will be a rather large upgrade as compared to the Optimus G.
According to details coming from the article, it looks like we may see this device as early as May of next year. This would place the release ahead of schedule as it was originally believed that any follow-up to the Optimus G would not arrive until the second half of 2013.
Rough release date aside, lets talk about those specs. Based on what we can see, this will not be a small step up. The display is said to be a 5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a pixel resolution of 440 ppi. Additionally, some of the other (still rumored) specs include a quad-core 2.0GHz MSM8974 Snapdragon S4 Prime processor, a camera with backlight prevention technology and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie with support for 4G LTE connectivity.
Touching back on the processor for a moment and it was noted that the CPU and LTE will be on the same chip. As to what that means, or what it should mean, a decent battery life. Of course, time and real-world use will tell just how accurate that will be. Otherwise, we obviously still have plenty of time before we can expect a release, or even an official announcement. Nonetheless, the LG Optimus G2 does appear to be a smartphone worth keeping an eye on.
