Chrome is getting smarter, could point out noisy browser tabs soon

If you’ve ever gotten frustrated with Chrome trashing tabs you are actively using due to low memory, Google may have found a way to fix that problem in its latest Chromium build.
Spotted by François Beaufort, the new feature in the latest Chromium build is an EQ animation that plays over the noisy tab’s favicon. It will serve as a way to keep active tabs running when the system is out of memory. In other words, Chrome is becoming smarter; it won’t shut down the tabs that are actively in use.

According to The Verge who took the feature for a test run, it works with standard audio files and HTML5, but it does not work with Adobe’s Flash Player, which means it may be a while before we see this feature go live. As The Verge‘s Jeff Blagdon notes, it’ll be a great day when those tabs abruptly playing audio can be found by simply looking for the EQ animation.
