Google isn’t done with the reorganizations just yet! Following news of Andy Rubin’s move away from Android with Sundar Pichai taking over, and the company’s second round of “spring cleaning” which involves shutting down Google Reader, which fans are trying their best to save, the Wall Street Journal reports that Google is now dividing it maps and commerce unit, with VP Jeff Huber, who headed the department, moving to Google X labs.

Huber has been with Google since 2003, and posted a statement on both Google+ and Twitter to address the move, stating, “Finishing up my first decade at Google, and excited to return to my startup roots and begin the next one at Google X! Let me know what you’d like to see Google X do next.”
Huber’s on-going stint at the company included leading the teams behind AdWords, AdSense, Double Click, and Google Apps, before taking over Commerce and Local in 2011 as Senior Vice President. The mapping unit will become a part Google’s search division, led by SVP Alan Eustace, with commerce joining the advertising team, under SVP Susan Wojcicki.
There must be some big things happening over at the secretive Google X labs, that has given us self-driving cars and Google Glasses, and with reports of a new Google X project being revealed in a few months, we can only wait and see what the company has in store for us! Have you got your Google I/O tickets yet?
