The times, they are a-changin. No longer are we content with the idea of being locked into a phone contract, and devices like the Nexus 4 have been a big part of that change. In a bold move to keep up with this new consumer attitude, T-Mobile has started pushing its “unCarrier” philosophy. This means no more contracts, and instead T-Mobile will move forward with a new plan, dubbed Simple Choice.

As was previously leaked, the Simple Choice plans have several options, starting with the ‘base’ plan of $50 which includes unlimited talk and text, with 500MB of full speed data. After the 500MB is used, the speed will cut to 2GB of 2G speed.
Most of us are going to need a hell of a lot more data than that, but no worries, T-Mobile understands that. For $10 more, you get 2GB of unthrottled data, or for $20 you get fully unlimited 4G data with no caps or overages.
For those with multiple family members that need service, T-Mobile comes through there as well. For $30, you can add a second line to your plan, and $10 more for any additional line after the second.

So unlimited talk, texting and data options, check. Family plans, check. What about tethering? No matter what plan you choose, mobile hotspot access is included for up to 500MB. If you don’t have an unlimited plan, that 500MB comes right out of your limited data pool. For those that need more hotspot data, T-Mobile will offer 2GB for $10, 4GB for $20.
There’s a lot to love about T-Mobile’s new service plan, though it is far from perfect and has to compete against solid prepaid offerings like Ting and StraightTalk. Still, it is a step in the right direction and could be the shake-up that is needed when it comes to the way U.S. carriers do their business.
Wondering how getting a new device works if subsidized contract plans are out the window? T-Mobile promises it will be easy to bring your own device to their network, or buy directly from them outright. Don’t have that kind of cash lying around? T-Mobile will offer interest-free monthly installment plans, though you will have to pay a down payment.
What do you think of T-Mobile’s new Simple Choice initiative, is it enough to make you switch from your existing carrier?
