Samsung’s Galaxy S3 has been a big sales hit, but things could have gone down even smoother for the 4.8-incher. The staggered release of the GS3 has been far from ideal, making folks in a couple of large markets (including the US) wait a little too much for the superphone. And not everyone thinks patience is a virtue.
We’ve all hoped Sammy would handle the global launch of the Galaxy S4 a little better, and, while it’s still too early to call it, we’re getting good vibes from the Koreans. In the United States, “the next big thing” is expected to land on or around May 1.
Several Western European countries, including the UK, should get it a few days earlier, while the Eastern European rollout is now expected to be kicked into gear around the same time. That’s according to Sam Mobile’s confidential sources, meaning the news is not official, but pretty reliable nevertheless.
Specifically, if this story proves legit, Eastern Europe (including Russia and Ukraine) will be getting the 3G-only version of the Galaxy S4 with 16 GB of on-board storage in week 16 of 2013, meaning two weeks from now (April 15-21).
Both the black mist and white frost editions should go on sale then, while the 64 GB version will only be available starting with week 24 (June 10-16). For some odd reason, Samsung might have axed the 32 GB variant already, while the LTE-enabled S4 with 16 GB of memory is to make its debut in week 21 (May 20-26).
Finally, the 64 GB GS4 with 4G LTE speeds will land in Eastern Europe at the same time as the 3G version (week 24, or between June 10 and 16).
Sadly, there’s no mention of the CPUs packed by each particular version, meaning we don’t know if the LTE S4 units expected in week 21 and 24 will be powered by the quad-core Snapdragon or the octa-core Exynos.
Do you think Samsung will manage to release the GS4 globally in the space of a couple of weeks and handle demand? If so, is the S4 bound to break its predecessor’s sales records?
