Galaxy Note II benchmarks leaked in the wild?
Download 07/15/2012 - 07/22/2012 Android News by theandroidthemes.com to your cell phone or PC for free.Just today we told readers that Samsung would be unveiling their newest Galaxy device on August 15. Ironically, benchmarks for the rumored Galaxy Note II seemed to have leaked into the wild, packing a quad-core 1.6 Ghz Exynos 4412 processor with Mali-400 graphics, which is the same as the Galaxy S III.
The leaked device has a codename of GT-N7100, while the original Galaxy Note had a name of GT-N7000. It would only make sense that this is the next iteration of Samsung’s phablet.
However, one specification that we’re not sure of yet is the screen resolution. The benchmarks over at GLBenchmark.com state that the screen resolution is 1280 x 720, however the original Note had a screen resolution of 1280 x 800. It wouldn’t make sense for Samsung to dumb down the screen resolution, however, could the 80 less pixels be used for an on-screen navigation bar? Only time will tell.

One man found out the other day when in a less than sober condition, he dropped his Motorola DROID X face first into a campfire. But as we said, the DROID line has always been built tough. Believe it or not, even in its scarred condition the touchscreen, buttons, camera and speaker all still work. The battery and microSD card are fused to the back of the unit which still recharges the battery.

Nexus 7 Touchscreen Defect Surfaces

The roll out of the Nexus 7 tablets has seen it's fair share of problems ranging from loose creaky screens to wash-out. Another potential defect has surfaced although we are not ready to call it widespread just yet. Ryan, over at Geek.com, stumbled on an issue that effects the Nexus 7's inability to registers inputs. It appears that after playing a graphic intensive game for a while, the right side of the screen (portrait mode) will stop picking up touch inputs. When it does pick up an input it quickly loses connection. This issue will not only be present in the game you are playing, it will spill into other areas of the UI because the only known fix is to shut off the display momentarily. So swiping can become quite a chore when trying to swipe from right to left, and trying to navigate an app when half the screen is "dead" could quickly became a test of patience. Although gaming seems to cause this issue the most, it was noted that it could be caused from running other applications, but it is rare. Speculation has suggested that this issue may be caused by an overheating issue, and possibly some other "contributing factors." We have to say that we agree that it may be due to both, because if it was only a heat related issue, then turning off the screen for a couple of seconds wouldn't solve the issue.
We'd like to hear from our readers. Have you noticed this type of behavior on your Nexus 7 after gaming or using the tablet for an extended period of time?

For many their list is pretty simple right now. When will my Nexus 7 arrive and when will my current device get Jelly Bean. Not all devices will get Jelly Bean just as many did not and still will not get Ice Cream Sandwich. We know the GSM Galaxy Nexus, GSM Nexus S and Nexus 7 are already getting or have some sweet treats delivered. Among others, HTC has stated a few devices are in the works right along with ASUS and some of their tablets. What about the two big devices from Samsung that have made them billions?

Chameleon launcher demoed on Nexus 7, set to hit Play Store in August
Download 07/15/2012 - 07/22/2012 Android News by theandroidthemes.com to your cell phone or PC for free.Back in May we brought you all a look at a new tablet home replacement app that was in the works on Kickstarter called Chameleon. In a nut shell it will automatically change your tablets layout based on time of day, GPS location and the type of connection you are on. It does a lot more than that and looks great doing it. Since May Chameleon has had a few ups and downs. All the pledges made to the company to bring the app to the world had to be canceled due to circumstances surrounding the employee that it was set up under and everyone had to re-pledge to a new page. A small annoyance, but the community responded well and got it back off and running. They have since met their goal and Chameleon is on its way to Android sometime in early August. Those that did the pre-ordering to help get it going will get their build a bit sooner than the rest of the world of course.

Samsung event set for August 15th for “unveiling of the newest GALAXY device”
Download 07/15/2012 - 07/22/2012 Android News by theandroidthemes.com to your cell phone or PC for free.Yes, another Galaxy device is on the way from Samsung. We still aren’t over the Galaxy S III craze yet and Samsung is about to announce a new Galaxy device that we will all no doubt want to hand our money over for. The rumor points to two potential announcements. First, they could be announcing the Galaxy Note 2. Which would be bad news for T-Mobile since they just recently announce the Galaxy Note was coming to the Magenta network, but failed to give a date. We are fairly certain that if the Note 2 is the big announcement, T-Mobile won’t be first inline to snag it up. The second rumor could be the U.S. announcement for the Galaxy Note 10.1.

They did fail to mention anything about the HTC One V, EVO 4G LTE or the Droid Incredible 4g LTE though. We are sure there is something in the works for some, if not all, of them too.
ASUS to update Transformer Pad, Prime and Infinity to Jelly Bean in coming Months

We wish we were her to say it was rolling out now or even be able to offer up a concrete date for the update. SAdly that isn’t the case. However a direct communication from ASUS letting customers of the Transformer Pad, Prime and Infinity that Jelly Bean is indeed in the works and coming is a good thing. We would all much rather know it is coming than wondering is they are doing anything about it at all. Not that we ever doubted ASUS, they have always been pretty prompt on bringing updates to their tablets, especially new OS updates.
Google buys Sparrow, Hope for Improvements on Gmail Arise Everywhere
Download 07/15/2012 - 07/22/2012 Android News by theandroidthemes.com to your cell phone or PC for free. This is surprising and beautiful news, Google has just purchased third-party email client company Sparrow. Dom Leca announced this today on twitter also stating that current apps will not receive any new features, which seems the logical thing to do since they will start working on Gmail. As Google said about Sparrow’s team “[they have] a lot of expertise in how to make mail communication really simple”, this shows that Google is really looking to improve on Gmail, probably more in-line with Google+, which every day feels more like an app and less like a web page, and that’s a great idea.

Google Now port to ICS makes head way, Voice now working with a Twist
Download 07/15/2012 - 07/22/2012 Android News by theandroidthemes.com to your cell phone or PC for free.Everyone that can’t have Jelly Bean just yet still really wants Google Now. We reported on a port that was being worked on where it would install, but you had to type everything. That sort of defeated the purpose of the whole experience. We all want voice. Now there is a new process for installation that gets the amazing Google Now service up and running with voice functionality. Before you tell your boss you feel sick so you can run home and install it, there is still one minor issue. While voice is now working where you can tell it to do stuff and look for stuff, once you have said your peace, you have to hit the search button physically. Not a huge deal, as it beats the heck out of typing everything it.
No rear camera on the Nexus 7 was a cost cutting conscious decision by ASUS
Download 07/15/2012 - 07/22/2012 Android News by theandroidthemes.com to your cell phone or PC for free. Not that the news of no rear camera on the Nexus 7 tablet is new, some people wondered why one wasn’t included. The answer to that question was price point. In order for ASUS to keep the new tablet price as low as possible to get it in the hands of more people, certain things needed to be removed. ASUS had three options; 1) Add in a high quality rear facing camera, 2) Add in a low resolution rear camera or 3) leave the camera out of the equation. Obviously they chose to keep that camera out of the tablet.
Black HTC One S shows up with T-Mobile branding, not for public Consumption

Don’t go getting all excited to run to the store and pick one up though. The Black One S is a special edition device that is being offered to T-Mobile store reps who meet certain sales goals for HTC devices. Having been a T-Mobile employee previously, I know that special edition device for employees happen often. Does that mean you won’t find one on Ebay or Craigslist at some point in time? Nope, but if the winner gets caught selling it they will risk losing their job and not many people will do that for a couple hundred bucks.

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Download 07/15/2012 - 07/22/2012 Android News by theandroidthemes.com to your cell phone or PC for free.Sure, the tight grip Samsung has on global marketing channels, combined with its fruitful partnerships with worldwide carriers also contributed to its success – taking over the global Android smartphone market. But what probably mattered the most is the fact that the company has not limited its top-end smartphone offerings to what one might call “conventional Android smartphones”.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2: The Context
Arguably one the most popular – and one the most profitable – smartphones Samsung has launched thus far is the newest member of the Galaxy S line, namely the Samsung Galaxy S3. Recent reports claim that Samsung expects to sell a bit under 20 million Galaxy S3 smartphones by fall 2012, an impressive number given that the S3 was released just a couple of months ago. Although the numbers are as big as they come, it’s exactly what you’d expect for the best Android smartphone currently on the market, given that the market for “conventional smartphones” is as large as it has ever been. While not officially announced (although almost confirmed by Samsung Arabia not that long ago), we have a pretty good image of what to expect from the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Just like was the case with the Google Nexus 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 before it, I’m willing to bet that the Galaxy Note 2 rumor roundup we have recently published will turn out to be at least 80% spot on.
Now that I’ve hopefully managed to give context to this versus article, it is time to start the Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 specs and features battle. The fight includes four equally important rounds: display, internal hardware, Android OS version and pricing and release dates. Let’s get it on!
Display
The Samsung Galaxy S3 features a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD PenTile display running at a native resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, meaning the pixel per inch ratio (PPI) rests at 306. If rumors turn out to come true, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will feature a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD display (most likely PenTile as well), although the resolution is pretty much a mystery at this point.Given that the original Galaxy Note used a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution (5.3-inch display, 285 PPI), a bump in resolution should occur if Samsung wants to make full use of the main principle behind the original Galaxy Note, namely a big but crisp screen.
A 1600 x 900 pixel resolution is also possible (and roughly equally probable) and would obviously be a whole lot better as it would bring the PPI ratio to 333PPI, while dreams of a 1920 x 1080 display on the Galaxy Note should be postponed until the Galaxy Note 3 will be released, probably sometime in Q4 2013. It’s not that I believe Samsung is not able to come up with a 5.5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED PenTile display, as the company is considerably ahead of everyone in the Super AMOLED field, but why would Samsung invest more money to come up with a smartphone sporting a 400.53 PPI display, when the current standard for top-end smartphones rests well under 350 PPI. As the price of a top-end smartphone is fairly consistent across all platforms and manufacturers, Samsung would only end up making less money, as a 5.5-inch 1080p display is surely a lot more expensive to make than a 5.5 incher running at a 1600 x 900 resolution. After all, Samsung is a business whose aim is to make as much money as possible.
Hardware
From my perspective, the most credible rumor claims that the Galaxy Note 2 will feature the same Exynos 4 SoC (Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU and Mali-400MP GPU) that you can find in the international version of the Galaxy S3. While the Galaxy S3 features 1GB of RAM in its international version, chances are that the Galaxy Note 2 will come with 2GB of RAM, although we can’t be sure for now. Overall, I don’t expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to come with more processing power than the Galaxy S3, although there is a chance that I may turn out to be wrong once the Galaxy Note 2 is officially unveiled.Pricing and Release Date
Judging on how prices usually evolve in the mobile world, I would expect the Galaxy Note 2 to be priced around the current levels of the Galaxy S3′s prices, which is roughly the price of the original Note at the time of its release. However, you should keep in mind that the Samsung Galaxy S3 price will most likely drop a bit by the time the Galaxy Note 2 is actually launched. If the rumored September/October timeframe for the Galaxy Note 2 release date turns out to be real (which could very well be the case), the Galaxy S3 will already be a 4- or 5-month old device, as it was released back in late May. From my experience, the perfect timing to buy a top-end smartphone is about six months after its release date, when all sorts of deals and special offers start showing up.
Android OS
The Samsung Galaxy S3 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and Samsung made no announcement regarding a future Jelly Bean update, although common sense dictates that it should arrive by the end of this autumn.Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2: A Pre-Emptive Conlcusion
As you can see, chances are that the actual differences between these two smartphones will turn out to be not that important. Personally, I think of the Galaxy Note 2 as a bigger version of the Galaxy S3. Reports claim the design will be similar, the specs are rumored to be similar – and these rumors are backed up by logic as well. If you have small hands or don’t usually watch a lot of media on your smartphone, the best decision would be to get the Samsung Galaxy S3. If working with a 5.5-inch display and carrying a device with a fairly larger footprint is not a daunting task for you, go for the Galaxy Note 2. If the Note 2 follows the path we can forecast, the decision will surprisingly be that simple to make.New Paragon Android app lets you easily connect your phone or tablet to Windows and Mac drives
Download 07/15/2012 - 07/22/2012 Android News by theandroidthemes.com to your cell phone or PC for free.Although there are many easy and convenient ways to hook up a PC to an Android-based smartphone and/or tablet these days, there still isn’t a cohesive and accessible solution around for connecting both Mac and Windows formatted drives to mobile devices.
The compatibility issues are the main reason why you’ll have a very tough job in transferring files between such devices – media used on an Android device needs to be formatted as a FAT32 drive, while Windows and Mac drives are NTFS and HFS+ formatted.
Sure, you can e-mail yourself files, copy them from a laptop to a phone or tablet with the help of an SD card, but why go through such inconvenient procedures when you can do everything straightforward and extremely quickly? Well, you can’t, you might answer, but that’s because you haven’t met Paragon’s new Android app, available as a free download in Google Play.
The Paragon NTFS & HFS+ app (I know, not the most inspired name), is a very easy to use software that allows you to attach to your Android-powered device any NTFS or HFS+ flash drives or hard disk drives and handle them as if they were FAT32-formatted in the first place.
You can copy files from both Windows and Mac drives without the need to change any settings, reformat or make efforts of any kind, so convenience and ease of use are the key words here. Then again, there is a catch for the app, at least for the time being.
In fact, there are two issues you might encounter with Paragon NTFS & HFS+. First off, the app is still in beta, so you might deal with bugs or glitches here and there. That’s not much of an inconvenience, though, especially considering that the developers have promised they will listen to user feedback very carefully and act accordingly.
What could be a major annoyance, however, is making the app work on your specific phone or tablet, as there are some pretty special conditions to be fulfilled. Although it will technically work on any gadget running Android 2.3 or higher, you need to root your device before making use of the app and use an adapter to connect the drives.
Moreover, your phone or tablet has to support USB storage, and officially there aren’t many such devices, especially among the ones released more than a year ago. Then again, there are a bunch of custom ROMs around that take care of that inconvenience for some particular gadgets, so the more industrious Android users will probably have no problem in making Paragon’s new app work.
Enjoy and don’t forget to get back to us with your opinions on the app if you decide to take it for a spin.

(We wouldn't blame you) Still, regardless of your relative level of outrage regarding this story, we thought it was worth reporting that Apple has just been granted what could be the most damaging and powerful smartphone patent of them all. In fact, the folks at Phandroid called it, " the mother of all smartphone software patents," and it could potentially be abused by Apple to lock out practically every other smartphone in existence.

Apparently, there are some other issues cropping up with the device. Several users around the web are reporting small cracks showing up on the back case in various places, from around the camera to the side. Supposedly, this is not due to mishandling either. The cracks just started forming for these users after normal daily use and no drops.
