For those Xperia fans waiting on Jelly Bean, Sony has now shed some light on their update plans going forward. The first wave of Jelly Bean updates will finally start sometime in February or March of 2013 with the Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V.
After Sony finishes with the first three devices the company will release updates for the Xperia Go, Xperia J and Xperia P sometime after March. We also now have confirmation that the Xperia Acros S, Xperia Ion, Xperia S and Xperia SL will also get in on the Jelly Bean action but not until a little after the second wave ends. No exact target month was mentioned by Sony.
Not surprisingly, quite a few handsets are now officially being left behind as well. The Xperia Miro, Sola, Tip and Xperia U will all stick with Android 4.0. Considering many of these devices aren’t very old, this is more than a little disappointing.
While not everyone agrees, buying a Sony smartphone can certainly be a frustrating experience. Why is that? Although Sony has excellent designs and build quality, Android upgrades are a very big sore point.
Sure, they aren’t the only company that finds itself behind on these sorts of updates but more often than not, Sony users are left waiting for the newest version of Android long after many other brands like Samsung have since moved forward.
Still, if you don’t care about having the latest version of Android officially supported by your smartphone, there is a lot to like about Sony’s Xperia line. This is especially true for gamers that want a Sony device that is Playstation Certified.
