From the company that brought us forklifts — among other heavy equipment — and boots, get ready to welcome Cat’s latest rugged Android smartphone, the B15. The sequel to Cat B10, which was launched close to a year ago, promises some upgrades in the specs department, while keeping its ruggedness intact.
One of the biggest improvements that the Cat B15 offers over the predecessor is its 4-inch Gorilla Glass display, up from 3.2-inch. However, the screen still comes with the rather dated 800 x 480 pixel resolution. The processor has been bumped up as well, as the B15 is powered by a dual-core 1GHz MediaTek MT6577 CPU.
Other specs include 512MB of RAM, 4GB onboard storage, a microSD slot (up to 32GB), FM radio, 3G connectivity, and 2,00mAh battery. Similar to the previous model, the Cat B15 also boasts a 5MP main camera and a VGA front cam. You’ll find Android 4.1 Jelly Bean running on the phone, surprisingly.
As to what makes the B15 so tough, not only can it withstand up to 1.8 meters drops, but it is also IP67 waterproof, which means you can submerge the device under water – up to 1 meter – for up to half an hour. What’s more – the Cat B15 can operate in extreme temperatures from -20º C to 55º Celsius.
If you like what you’re seeing and reading of the Cat B15, you can look forward to the phone hitting stores in March for €329 or £299.
