The Galaxy S4 may not be present at MWC 2013, but the device is certainly lurking in the shadows waiting for its own moment of glory. After the Galaxy S4′s announcement date and location have been confirmed today, we got wind of one more feature that could be found on some of the future Galaxy S4 models out there, Visa’s payWave NFC-based wireless payment app.
At MWC, Visa unveiled its partnership with Samsung, saying that the payWave app will be installed on Samsung’s “next generation” line of smartphones, and while the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 were not specifically mentioned, its only logical to include them in the list since they’ll both surely pack NFC support just like their predecessors do.
While Visa said that the mobile wallet app will be installed on Samsung’s future NFC-ready devices, it’s not yet ready to confirm or deny whether the payWave app will work with Samsung handsets launched in the USA. We’ll remind you that certain American carriers will definitely mind having their ISIS mobile payment platform compete with a Samsung-Visa similar solution since some of them already mind having Google Wallet installed on existing NFC-ready devices. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
Future Samsung device owners will be able to use payWave with their Visa cards only, and although the app can deal with other credit cards, Visa will only support its own cards on those yet-to-be-determined Samsung handsets.
Are you using your Android handset for wireless payments yet? Will such a Samsung-Visa partnership matter when deciding what smartphone to buy this year?
