Parenting is a tricky business I’m sure, and convincing your children that they’re better off reading a book than surfing Facebook for endless hours after school is no-doubt a thankless task all around the world. Enter MiiPC, a mini-Android based PC aimed at tackling internet “addictiveness” in your kids.
This little device is designed for large screen connectivity and is optimized to provide a true keyboard and mouse experience, essentially offering you a basic PC experience for under $100, sounds pretty sweet.
But there are already quite a few cheap Android mini-PC dongles and devices available, and MiiPC doesn’t bring anything drastically new to the formula. Hardware wise things are familiarly quite low tech, but will provide everything you need for web-surfing, homework, and all the regular Android stuff. MiiPC comes with:
- Marvell Armada 1.2GHz dual-core processor
- 1GB RAM memory
- 4GB internal flash storage (expandable via SD Slot and USB port)
- WiFi (802.11 b/g/n)
- Ethernet Port
- Bluetooth (4.0)
- USB 2.0 Ports
- Speaker & Microphone Jack
- HDMI (1080p/720p) output
- Android Jelly Bean 4.2
How effective this sort of “hover parenting” will be against tech-savvy kids is a bit debatable, but MiiPC certainly adds value for concerned parents who don’t want to mess around with website blocking software.
The Kickstarter campaign has just started on its way to the $50,000 target. If you’re interested in MiiPC the initial pledge will set you back $99 ($89 if you’re quick to be one of the first 200 supporters) and you’ll receive your own MiiPC when it ships out sometime in the middle of the year.
