A new Nexus 5 rumor claims that the handset could be smaller than predecessors, skip this year’s Full 1080p screen “craze,” offer “huge battery life” and a great camera.
Phone Arena seems to be on a roll today when it comes to rumors featuring two of the most anticipated handsets of the coming months, the Google X Phone and the Google Nexus 5.
After looking earlier at a report that offered details about a high-end X Phone, it’s now time to check out a Nexus 5 story that claims the phone won’t necessarily be the high-end device you expect.
Apparently the new Nexus device will be smaller than its predecessors (Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus,) featuring a 4.5-inch 720p IPS screen that will “take up 88% of the front of the phone, the most of any phone.”
In addition to a slimmer bezel, the device is said to also feature a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, a 2800mAh battery and (as expected) no microSD slot.
But what’s really puzzling is that the Nexus 5 is now said to feature a 9-megapixel CCD camera. An earlier report said that the Nexus 5 will come with a Nikon-made camera, while an even earlier Google+ comment from Google’s Vic Gundotra confirmed Google’s interest in improving the camera of its future Nexus handsets.
But will the Nexus 5 move from CMOS, the imaging technology used in current phones to CCD?
Today’s Nexus 5 rumor is definitely on the wild side considering what this particular insider has told Phone Arena, so we’ll definitely pack a lot of salt to go with it. As for availability details, today’s report doesn’t tell us who is making the handset or when it will be launched.
We’ll just have to wait to see whether “compactness, huge battery life and great camera” will indeed describe the fifth-generation Nexus smartphone. And I can’t help but notice that we’ll see some sort of strange X Phone vs Nexus 5 rivalry in the coming months, since both phones will be Google’s. What would you choose?
