HTC decided to change our perception of smartphone camera technology with the introduction of the new UltraPixel camera module. While the highly-touted feature is innovative, it has also started to become a drawback for the company. Industry analysts stated that HTC is facing production issues, and this problem has already reared its ugly head with release delays in Taiwan, Netherlands, and the UK.
While pre-orders are expected to ship in March, retail availability of the HTC One globally has been pushed to April. The good news is that if you’re in the US and were hoping to pick up the HTC One, this delay will no affect you. According to HTC Source, the company commented that the delay doesn’t apply to US models, as the US network carriers are on a separate timeline. So if all things go as planned, the US launch of the HTC One will still happen by the end of this month. The device will be available from AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint.
While its good news for US consumers, the delay of the device launch in the global market is still disappointing news, and is sure to have an adverse affect, especially when HTC is banking on the success of its flagship smartphone to make a comeback in the Android scene. The delay also gives time to potential customers to wait and see what the Samsung Galaxy S4 has to offer, a launch that is happening tomorrow.
