HTC One availability and price roundup – US, Canada, Europe, Asia

Time is money. And money is also money. Those are the two key things HTC has to keep in mind now that the One is official. Sure, marketing is important, but it’s far more important to know that, in the Android décor, you’re in a race against the clock these days.

It was pretty smart to unveil the One before the Samsung Galaxy S4, but that’s going to mean zilch if HTC’s flagship won’t also be out in stores by the time the S4 is official. The sooner the better.
And then there’s the actual money issue. A one-week head start can mean the world for someone who wants a phone today, but a couple of bucks less than the competition can tip the scales in your favor in a blink of an eye.
All that considered, does HTC have what it takes to make the One a hit? Well, let’s see, shall we?

US availability and pricing

While we usually have to make due with vague info on global carriers set to sell a high-end phone, HTC has been quite chivalrous this time around, issuing a list of 185 networks and retailers where the One will be available.

AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile US lead the pack, but Verizon is the biggest name to not make the cut. Big Red is however the only American carrier to sell the Droid DNA.
There’s no US release date confirmed just yet, but March 22 has come up in several rumors of late. The 32 GB One is expected to go for $199 with 2-year contracts, while the 64 GB version will most likely be worth $100 extra. Off contract, our guestimate is $550.

HTC One in Canada

Rogers, Bell, Telus and Virgin Mobile are all confirmed to be bringing the One up north, but dates and exact price points are kept under wraps. If we were to guess, we’d say late March, $100-$150 with three-year contracts and $550-$600 outright, but don’t rely on that too much.

UK prices and availability

GB is basically the only country where (some) pricing details have been confirmed. And they actually sound pretty good. The SIM-free One is up for pre-order from Phones4U for £459, Clove at £510 and Expansys at £519. That’s $700 and up, but it’s less than what the Xperia Z goes for around those parts.

First stock is expected around March 15, while O2, EE, 3 and Vodafone are all confirmed to sell the phone, but with no other info revealed.

HTC One in Europe (the rest of it)

There are no less than 41 European countries confirmed to get the One, including the UK. We’re not going to name every carrier on the list, but some of the big ones are Vodafone (present in 14 of those states), T-Mobile (ten countries covered), Orange (seven), H3G (five) and O2 (four).
Based on the info from Britain, the rest of the Europe should expect to get the HTC One starting in mid-March too for €600 and up outright.

HTC One in Asia

The most notable absences on the list of carriers expected to sell the One, besides Verizon, are the big networks in India and Japan. Obviously, the 4.7-incher is to see daylight there at one point, but probably not before April.
China’s trio of carriers is on the list however, just like the three leading networks of Taiwan, all five from Hong Kong, a trio from Singapore and Mobifone Vietnam. ETAs and price points are kept secret all-around.

Australia pricing and availability

As you probably already know, HTC’s One is headed to Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. Unfortunately, we don’t have anything official on dates and price points here either. If you want guesses again, we’re going to go with late March and around A$600 outright.
