If you’ve been disappointed by the lack of handsets and number of regions supported by Facebook Home, then I have some good news for you. The kind folks over at Madaco, who incidentally also had their hands on the leaked version of Facebook Home as well, have put together a collection of APKs which will allow you to run Facebook Home on pretty much any Android device.
There are currently two available work arounds, the first for if you already own an officially supported device but reside in a country which hasn’t received Facebook Home officially. The second is for users who own an unsupported device, which is probably the category most of us fall into.
The first option, for compatible handsets, works by simply downloading and installing a modified APK, providing that you have the latest Facebook Main and Messenger apps already installed from the Play Store.
If you don’t own a supported device then you’ll need to uninstall all the Facebook apps that you’re currently using, which could be problematic from those of you who own phones which come with Facebook pre-installed. If you can’t fully uninstall Facebook then you’ll need to root your device and manually remove the files from the system directory.
Once you’ve removed all the standard Facebook apps you then need to install three patched APKs; one for Facebook Main, Messenger, and finally Facebook Home. The modified APKs are required to completely remove the device check from the app.
The great thing about this fix is that most users are reporting that all the features are working correctly. The only bug, which only appears on a few devices, seems to be that the SMS from Messenger function sometimes stops working, but that’s not a huge issue.
You can get your hands on all the files you’ll need from Madaco, and there’s a full guide and installation tips there as well. Don’t forget that there’s also the XDA created APK too, which works in pretty much the same way.
