It’s been a while since we’ve welcomed a new member to the Android tablet manufacturing club, and, while a couple of big guys are backing out from the game, one little guy wants in.
Best Buy’s Insignia brand is not a household name to many tech enthusiasts. Nevertheless, after trying its hand with LED TVs and HD radios, the electronics retailer will sell its own tablet starting next month. Now that’s bold!

The Insignia Flex has been revealed on Facebook by what looks like an official company account, but we should still look at the gadget as unconfirmed for the time being. There’s only one photo starring the tab and a couple of words about it, but I have to admit – I am intrigued.
The Flex will sport a 9.7-inch screen with a yet to be revealed resolution and will be powered by a mysterious dual-core 1 GHz processor, while boasting a ten hour battery life and running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Pretty run of the mill features for a late 2012 tablet, but the reason I, for one, am intrigued is the Flex’ design. Best Buy’s tab definitely stands out from the crowd, with sharp edges and an interesting bezel that seems to be curved for some reason.
Now, I’m not saying this design will definitely work. In fact, I’m pretty certain some of you will find it tacky. Still, it’s something else, and it could also hide something. I mean, there might be a reason the only pic of the device is showing the Flex from one side.
The name is also interesting, and, again, I feel like there’s something Best Buy is hiding from us. I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but what if “Flex” means that the slate can bend more than it is shown in the image?
That’s definitely food for thought, but hopefully we’re going to get an official announcement sooner than the “one month from today” announced for the Flex’ selling debut. Oh, and also, please, Best Buy, if you will in fact come out with an original tablet, do consider bumping up those specs a bit. Or at least have a Jelly Bean update ready.
Who else is intrigued by the Insignia Flex?
