Mobile Application Development has helped create more half a million jobs in the United States

The U.S. presidential election season is in full swing. One word that has been tossed around a lot is job creation. Both presidential candidates promise that their plan will create more jobs. One area not many people talk about is mobile application development. As Android and iOS continue to grow, one must ask if they’ve affected the job market in any way.

In a word, yes. According to CTIA, application development has created about 512,000 jobs in the United States to date. Most app development companies are rather small. Usually, they employ less than 200 people. However, given that there are over a million applications in Android and iOS alone, it isn’t difficult to imagine how many of these companies exist.
The creation of jobs is great for the United States. The biggest winners are the states that have a lot of application development. App development draws in over a billion dollars in over half a dozen states. California companies make over eight billion.

Will application development be a major industry any time soon?

In comparison to things like oil and food, no. However, CTIA predicts that application development will nearly quadruple in size over the next four years. This makes sense as every mobile operating system is getting new activations every day. It is a market that hasn’t stopped growing and shows no signs of slowing down. That means there will be people to sell applications to for many years to come.
President and CEO of Applico, Alex Moazed, explains it better, “The mobile app economy is still in its infancy and it’s accelerating at an unprecedented rate. Mobile apps are creating a tectonic shift in how everyone lives their lives and operates their businesses. As a result, jobs are being created across the spectrum – both technical and non-technical.”
The point is, application development is bigger than ever. In a struggling economy, any amount of job creation is important. Application development has given a job to half a million people and are looking for more. According to the experts, it is going to be that way for a long time.
