We brought you the news of Apple’s grudging acknowledgement that Samsung did not copy the iPad. The company was told by a UK judge to publish a statement on its website in a measure designed to reverse some of the damage Apple has done with copying claims leveled at their South Korean competitor. Of course, Apple being Apple, the actual statement they published was used as another opportunity to trash Samsung.
The statement was published on an unbranded page with a small link from the homepage and it included quotes from the trial pointing out that Samsung’s Galaxy tablets are “not as cool” as the iPad. Apple also decided to mention other cases elsewhere in the world where Samsung was found to have infringed patents.
We wondered at the time whether this would prompt an angry response because it basically flaunted the UK court ruling. Sure enough the UK court of appeal has deemed it “non-compliant” and ordered Apple to rewrite the statement and display it on the homepage until December 14.
At the hearing Apple actually tried to argue that it would take them at least 14 days to put a corrective statement up on the website. This didn’t go down well and one judge reportedly said he “cannot believe” that’s the case.
Apple has 48 hours to publish a correction so keep an eye on the Apple UK website and we’ll see how the company responds this time.
