MetroPCS is one of the minor US carriers that has progressed immensely lately, mostly due to the spreading of its LTE network, introduction of VoLTE, and strengthening of its phone line-up. But if it’s one thing that the wireless provider was still missing, that was certainly a pack leader.
There are several decent smartphones being sold by the number six carrier in the States, as well as very many budget-friendly handhelds, but they all lack the pizazz of a flagship or “hero” device. No worries, because Samsung will come to the rescue soon, making the Galaxy S3 even more available to the masses.
Everybody’s favorite Android phone has enjoyed an almost simultaneous U.S. launch on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular back in July, but that doesn’t seem to have been enough for Sammy.
We’ve known for a while that the GS3 is also heading to MetroPCS, but until now all we had were uncorroborated rumors and indirect confirmations from various “sources”. Today however, the phone has been officially confirmed by MetroPCS, which has put up a listing on its website mentioning that “The Next Big Thing Is Here”.
Still, the S3 is not technically here yet, being expected to start selling sometime in October. The exact date is kept under wraps, although we’re guessing MetroPCS will put you out of your misery in a couple of weeks or so.
The listing says nothing about the S3’s spec sheet, although we’re not expecting any surprises. The only question is whether MetroPCS’ flagship will come with Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean on board, but even if it’ll be the former, Android 4.1 will still be somewhere around the corner.
Here are some of the rest of the features expected for the phone:
