Google are pretty good when it comes to improving their various search features, and are set to begin rolling out a new update to their image search results. The changes to Google Images are designed to make it easier for users to move through large swathes of results, as well as making the entire experience faster and more reliable than ever before.
The most noticeable changes will be to the way in which you’ll preview an image out of a larger set, as you’ll now be able to obtain larger image previews by clicking on the image result. Handily this won’t immediately direct you to the host website like before. They are also adding the ability to flip through image previews by using your keyboard, rather than clicking away with your mouse.
If you want to go back to view other search results after looking at a preview you now just scroll down, and you can continue viewing the wider results list. Navigating to the host page of the image works by click on the preview image, which is pretty much the same as before.
The changes will be rolling out across each region over the next few days. I’m still waiting for the new and improved Google Images to land in the UK, but if anyone has received the update already let me know what you think of the changes.
