While Samsung made the Galaxy Grand official more than a month ago, there’ve been numerous questions about the device that still needed answers. Pricing was a mystery, as was the exact release date and markets targeted by the “5-inch Galaxy S2 that looks like an S3”.
Piece by piece, Sammy has completed the puzzle in the last few weeks, making the Grand look far more enticing than we initially thought. Especially in Korea, where it’s expected to start selling any day now via all three major carriers – SK Telecom, KT and LG U+.
What makes the Korean Grand special? First of all, the outright price. According to Juggly.cn, the 5-incher will go for 350,000 won off contract, which is just around $328 or €246. That’s not only much less than what we figured Samsung would charge for the device, but it’s about a third of Galaxy Note 2’s price in Korea.
Want another reason to envy the lucky folks residing in Samsung’s homeland? How about if we tell you the Galaxy Grand there will come with a beefed-up quad-core 1.4 GHz processor? That should be a lot faster than the dual-core 1.2 GHz chip inside the Grand versions we’ve seen in Ukraine and India and it actually could make this a decent alternative for the GNote 2.
On the flipside, the Grand variant announced today (model number SHV-E270S) doesn’t come with dual-SIM support. Still, with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, an 8 MP rear-facing camera, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, microSD support, 1 GB of RAM and a 2,100 mAh battery, this big guy has enough to draw in the crowds. Now if only Samsung would come out with a similar version of the phone at a competitive price outside Asia…
