We have the full list of official Samsung Galaxy S4 specs and features. What do you think, do they leave anything to be wanted?
As with every release of a major new handset there are rumors and leaks aplenty. But at long last we finally have our hands on the genuine specs for Samsung’s new Galaxy S4, and it turns out that many of the early reports were actually true.
As we first heard a few months ago, there are two versions of the Galaxy S4, one for the US and one for the rest of the world. The only difference between the two is the choice of SoC.

Galaxy S4 Specs
Snapdragon 600 vs Exynos 5 Octa
As the rumors suggested, the US version will be using Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 600 whilst the rest of the world will be using Samsung’s own octo-core Exynos 5 Octa
(5410). The Snapdragon 600 will be running at a smooth 1.9Ghz, whilst
the Exynos 5410 will be clocked a tiny bit slower at 1.6Ghz.Quad-core vs octo-core doesn’t sound like a very fair comparison, and considering that the Exynos 5 Octa uses the new Cortex A15 processors it could have a slight performance edge over the Krait cores used in the Snapdragon 600. Battery-wise, both of these two chips should be relatively power efficient as they are both designed with energy efficiency in mind.
Adreno 320 vs PowerVR SGX 544MP3
Due to the two different SoCs used in the different versions of the
Samsung Galaxy S4 the phones will also be using two different graphics
chips. The Snapdragon 600 sticks with the relatively powerful Adreno
320, whilst the Exynos 5 Octa opts for an over-clocked PowerVR SGX
544MP3 running at an impressive 533Mhz. You might recall that this is
the same GPU used in the iPad4, which offers some of the best graphics
performance on the market. It can be frustrating for customers to have to settle for different hardware specs in different territories, but Samsung did something similar with the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3. This does mean that the US version will perform very similarly to new high end smartphones like the LG Optimus G Pro and new HTC One, which both use exactly the same Snapdragon 600 chip.
However, the international version might actually see some performance improvements over it’s US brother thanks to the new Cortex A15 CPUs and the super high clock speed of the SGX 544MP3. But we’ll wait for a direct comparison before reaching any conclusions.
And the rest
As for memory and internal storage, all models will ship with 2GB RAM memory for applications, and there will be a 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variants to meet your storage needs. Much to the relief of many I’m sure, the Galaxy S4 will also come with a microSD card expansion slot with support for a further 64GB of space. The handset has a 5-inch, 1080p (1920×1080) display, and Samsung has opted for a PHOLED AMOLED screen to help reduce power consumption while maintaining top-notch image quality. The high definition display will be perfect for viewing the impressive 13 megapixel pictures which can be taken with the camera. The front facing camera sports a decent 2 megapixels as well.
The Galaxy S4 will weigh in at 130g and has reasonable dimensions of 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9mm. Considering it boasts a 5-inch screen very little space is being wasted. Oh, and it will have a 2600mAh replaceable battery as well.
Galaxy S4 features
Ok so these were the most important Galaxy S4 specs, but the Galaxy
S4 also brings some other nice features with it. Firstly, the rumored
eye tracking technology has made it into the final design, which allows
the handset’s front facing camera to track your eye movements to
determine when to dim the screen or pause videos when you’re not
looking, also known as Smart Pause.Floating Touch is also implemented, which lets you interact with the touch screen by hovering your fingers just a few centimeters above it. This works in a very similar way to the S Pen for the Galaxy Note.
Samsung has also made a few improvements to camera functionality, including the Drama Shot feature which can take 100 shots in just four seconds, the ability to capture images from the front and rear cameras simultaneously, and finally there’s a new Sound and Shot feature which allows you to record a short audio clip before or after you press the shutter.
Perhaps most importantly, both the US and international handsets are LTE compliant, ensuring that you can access fast 4G network speeds wherever you are in the world.
There’s also plenty of additional connectivity, there’s the expected Bluetooth and NFC support for quickly transferring files between compatible devices. Samsung have also included an infrared LED, so that you can use the Galaxy S4 as a remote control for your TV and other gadgets if you so desire.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will also ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean installed, which is pretty surprising for a non Nexus device. Samsung is also packing in some nifty pieces of software, perhaps the most interesting is the S Translator, which understands nice different languages, will speaks translations for you, and types out translated audio recordings. There’s also Group Play, KNOX security, S Health, and compatibility with Samsung’s HomeSync box.
Are the specs and feature of the Galaxy S4 on par with your expectations?
