The acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google sent shock waves throughout not just the mobile industry, but the tech industry as a whole. The purchase raised numerous questions regarding the effect that this would have on Google’s other Android vendors such as Samsung and HTC. Many were concerned that this would most certainly give Motorola “special” privileges when it came to Android considering they now belonged to Google. To my surprise, and probably to most others, that’s far from the truth.
According to an ex-Motorola employee, ever since they were acquired by Google it was harder to work with them as Google didn’t want it to seem like they were giving Motorola “preferable treatment.” This all actually makes sense because Google knows that they are now walking a thin line and has to be careful to not anger their other big Android vendors.
In time things could very well change, after all there is an ever going rumor that Google will someday follow in suit of Apple and manufacture their own phone. If Google were to actually do that, then imagine the position they’re putting their Android partners such as Samsung and HTC.
Do you guys think Google should pull an Apple and use Motorola to manufacture their own Android phones? Or do you all like the way things are with Google’s strong and ongoing relationship with Samsung, HTC, LG and others?
