Today should probably be HTC’s special day, but the mobile technology world can’t stop spinning just because the One is finally set to make its debut. And unfortunately for HTC, the world is currently spinning for Sony and Samsung.
You might feel like Sony’s Xperia Z has been around for ages, but all the hype from the past weeks could well increase over the next days. Only available in Japan and France for now, the 5-incher is to make its next stops toward world domination by the end of the week.
And if you needed one more reason to love the waterproofer, here it is – it’s already rooted. Needless to say how that opens an entirely new world of possibilities once you get your grubby hands on the “precious”.

You can start working on custom ROMs, get rid of any bloatware Sony might have used to taint the “pure Google” experience on the phone and just all-around go crazy with the software. Just beware of the consequences, cover your tracks if you’re thinking of doing anything drastic and keep in mind that once you go root… you can never take advantage of your warranty.
Even if the root method was achieved remotely by DooMLoRD of XDA, everything seems to be in order. At least based on feedback from the handful of users who’ve tested it. Then again, you don’t reach recognized developer status on XDA by chance, so we have all the confidence in the world in this root.
To get started, you’ll need your firmware version to be 10.1.A.1.350 and your bootloader unlocked. The root has been tested only on the C6603, but it should also work on the C6602. From there on, you just have to follow eight simple and straightforward steps found under “how to root” here and voila, you’re 100% free of software restrictions.
Isn’t it awesome to be on Android? Where the grass is green, the sky blue and the playground open.
