HTC’s latest mid-range budget offering, the Desire X, didn’t exactly look like a phone to make the crowds very excited, so it didn’t come as a big surprise when the weeks passed and we didn’t hear a thing about its release.

However, exciting things are finally happening to the Desire X, at least in the UK, where the phone is up for grabs starting today. Phones4U is the first retailer to have the 4-incher on sale, with O2 and Vodafone contracts.
Nothing out of the ordinary so far, but wait till you hear about this. If you get the Desire X with an O2 24-month Unlimited On & On 1 GB data plan, not only you will not be asked to pay anything upfront, but you’ll also get a free pair of Beats by Dr. Dre Solo Headphones.
Now I know that these headphones have their large share of haters, being considered way too pricey by most. Still, you can’t deny their quality and performance, especially on a phone like the HTC Desire X, which is equipped with built-in Beats Audio sound enhancement.
And hey, worst case scenario, you hate the headphones, still think that they’re way too pretentious and snobbish, and you decide to sell them out. Not that we’d encourage such a thing, but they’re worth around £150 in the UK and $200 in the U.S., so if you do decide to pass them on to someone else you should be able to rake in some serious dough pretty fast.

The O2 plan you’ll have to sign up to get the headphones will have you pay monthly installments of £26 for two years and includes 1GB of data each month, as well as unlimited texts and minutes. If you don’t care so much about the earpieces and want to save up some money, there’s also the O2 data 100 plan, which will have you pay £21.50 each month and offer you 100 minutes of talk time and unlimited texts.
Vodafone also has two plans that you can choose from, neither of which requires a down payment for the Desire X. The £21 plan includes 100 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of Wi-Fi, while the much steeper £36 plan has 300 minutes, 3000 texts and 500MB of data. Finally, as a way to sweeten the deal even further, you’ll get three months of free WiFi with the Desire X no matter which of the four plans you’ll go for.
It’s also worth mentioning  that Phones4U only has the white version of the Desire X up for sale, which is funny, seeing as the only other retailer that has announced a shipping start for the phone (for mid-October), Clove, only has the black model.
Now if only the HTC Desire X were to make an appearance outside UK as well…
