PlayStation Mobile has been in the pipeline for a while now, but the wait is finally over. The new cross-platform service launches today and will work with all Android certified devices, as well as the PlayStation Vita.
The gaming platform is initially making its way over to Japan, the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia. Other countries will likely be added down the road. Will it be popular? In a word, yes. With over thirty titles from major developers, this is a great move in the right direction for Android gaming. Not all the games announced are ‘gems’ per se, but it is a good start and will improve in time. Announced titles include Twist Pilot, Tipper, Tractor Trails, Samurai Beatdown and Resurrection of Music.
Not only will this mean more quality games for Android, it also could help level the playing field when it comes to games. Microsoft’s previous Windows Phone Xbox gaming advantage on its mobile platform is now gone. As for iPhone and iPad? Sure, iTunes has a reasonable amount of games but there is no console-gaming integration and many of the games are from independent mobile studios. Between the many solid games on Google Play and the addition of PSN features, Android is now the place for gamers to be.
If you are wondering what hardware supports the new PlayStation service, you can count on 22 Sony Android devices for sure. HTC devices, on the other hand, are supposed to be certified but may not work right out the gate. The official list of devices that will be compatible with PlayStation Mobile can be found following the link in the source section below. So what do you think, are you excited about the PlayStation Mobile service? Do you have a compatible device?
