The Minuum keyboard aims to move on from the typewriter era

There are numerous third-party keyboard apps available on the Google Play Store, with the popular ones featuring increasing similar features such as auto correct, word completion, word prediction, and swipe typing. So what will it take to stand out in this crowd? A complete re-imagining of the tradition QWERTY keyboard of course!

That’s what Toronto-based startup Whirlscape is aiming to do with its Minuum keyboard, which the company is funding via Indiegogo, another Kickstarter-like crowd-funding website. Some of the features, and many ways the Minuum keyboard will help improve your mobile typing include-

• Recovering more than half the usable display real estate you lose when using traditional virtual keyboards. 
• Allowing fast text entry when typing is sloppy
• Letter magnification for precise typing, especially if you have large fingers
• Smart auto-correction
• Respecting your familiarity with the QWERTY keyboard so you don’t have to learn a new layout
• Convenient access to everything you’re used to on a traditional keyboard such as punctuation, space, backspace, and enter, without reducing screen space
• Ability to type anywhere – the keyboard can be moved anywhere on the screen, and can be re-sized, at your convenience
• Final release will also include options such as alternate color schemes, curving keyboard layout for more ergonomic text entry, and the ability to re-arrange the letters to your liking

Another amazing feature of the Minuum keyboard is the possibility of it being incorporated in devices other than just smartphones and tablets, such as smart watches, and game controllers. The company has already surpassed its $10,000 goal and has already received over $34,000 with 29 days left to go.
