AT&T and Boingo partner up to offer their customers expanded Wi-Fi access while traveling abroad

AT&T and Boingo Wireless are teaming up to bring their customers a wider level of Wi-Fi access while traveling abroad. Although this might sound like a good deal for customers, it comes with a catch for AT&T users.
With the new partnership AT&T customers will have access to 1GB of data through Boingo international Wi-Fi locations across the globe. Some of the regions covered include Japan, Canada, Europe, Brazil, and China. Wi-Fi access through international airports will start today, expanding to more locations throughout the year.

What’s the catch then? Unfortunately, AT&T customers must have a 300 or 800MB international roaming data package in order to qualify for the 1GB Wi-Fi coverage. That means you will need to pay at least an extra $60 for the privilege.
Boingo Wi-Fi users seem get the upper hand on this deal. Any Boingo subscriber plan will qualify for access to the more than 30,000 AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots in the United States.
Regardless of whether you have AT&T or use the Boingo Wi-Fi service, this partnership means a wider level of Wi-Fi access if you find yourself traveling outside of your home region, it’s just too bad that AT&T’s end of the partnership is a bit limited. Here’s to hoping that AT&T expands this offering to additional company’s in the future, though I wouldn’t hold my breath.
