LTE connectivity and budget friendliness don’t usually go hand in hand, but every rule has (at least) an exception, right? For this particular one, the HTC One SV seems to be the exception, although 4G LTE is still not the most useful feature in many countries, while the device’s price can be considered low only by some standards.
Unveiled back in November and already released in a couple of countries across the world, the One SV is now up for grabs in the UK as well. For the moment, there’s only one British retailer selling the mid-ranger, Clove, but we are expecting others to follow suit soon.
Clove is offering the 4.3-incher in two differently colored versions, blue and white. Both come with 8 GB of on-board memory, no contract and go for £349.99 including VAT. That’s around $566, but of course we don’t think the phone will cost as much when it’ll come to the States.
Still, that does feel like a tad on the expensive side, considering LTE in the UK is, simply put, laggy. There’s also only one carrier with a “true” 4G-based network, EE, so there’s not a lot of freedom of choice for potential buyers despite the phone being offered unlocked.
But what about the rest of the spec sheet? Well, to be diplomatic, that’s bittersweet at best. The dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm S4 CPU and 1 GB of RAM are satisfying enough for a mid-ranger these days, but the running of Android 4.0 ICS and the 800 x 480 pixels resolution display are kind of disappointing.
As for the 5 MP rear-facing snapper, 1.6 MP front-facing cam and 1,800 mAh battery, those are more or less mediocre features, so you might be better off waiting to see EE’s on-contract offers for the SV. That is if you’re not put off by the slightly dated design completely and you decide to pass on the phone altogether. Are you?
