The Xperia Z (aka Yuga) and the ZL (aka Xperia X, aka Odin) are definitely the two upcoming Sony devices to watch for, but they’re also almost certainly not the only ones due for releases soon. At least one other Sony phone, known at this time as the C5303 or “HuaShan”, will also be on display at either CES or MWC, based on recent rumors.
We spotted the HuaShan for the first time back in mid-December, and now we have some additional info about it. The good news – it paints a much clearer picture than last month, confirming the phone’s placing in the upper mid-range niche. The bad – the evidence is still not conclusive enough to make us certain the HuaShan is real and it also fails to bring any images with the device to light.
But let’s just focus on the glass half full part of the story, okay? And that is the C530X (C5303 for China) will be powered by a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960T CPU clocked at 1.7 GHz. The processor will be paired with an Adreno 320 GPU, according to intel from GlBenchmark, which is not bad for a phone that theoretically shouldn’t aspire at the high-end category.
The other two tech specs revealed by HuaShan’s benchmark are also worthy of a more than decent mid-ranger – a 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution display with on-screen virtual buttons and Android 4.1.2.
Unfortunately, that’s about all we know about the handheld right now, so the puzzle is still far from completion. Some of the most important questions that need to be answered are what diagonal size the display will be rocking and how much RAM will this big boy have for multitasking.
You know very well we don’t usually like to make guesses out of thin air, but some pundits are saying the HuaShan could be Xperia P’s successor, so a 4 or 4.3-inch screen is in the cards. As for the RAM, we’re of course rooting for 2 gigs, but in all honesty we think Sony will cut that in half.
Meanwhile, if the C530X does prove to be in any way tied to last year’s P, we can assume it won’t be seeing daylight as soon as next week’s CES and will instead wait it out until MWC in February. That’s of course to be determined, but we have a good feeling about these assumptions. How about you? Do you think Sony will have something else on display in Vegas besides the Z and ZL?
