The popularity of “plus-size” display smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may be surprising to some, but other international as well as local Indian manufacturers have quickly caught on to the trend, releasing a slew of 5-inch smartphones. They may not have the display resolutions to match their internationally-renowned counterparts, but in the case, size does matter. Joining this ever-growing club is the Karbonn Smart A111 dual-SIM Android smartphone.

Specifications of the Karbonn Smart A111 include:
  • 5-inch capacitive display (resolution unknown)
  • 1.2GHz dual-core Scorpion processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage, expandable via microSD up to 32GB
  • 5MP rear camera, front camera available
  • 2,100mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 ICS
  • Dual-SIM (GSM+GSM)
Unfortunately, the specifications aren’t up to the mark, considering the fact the device is priced at Rs 10,290 (~$205). At the pace that mobile hardware technology is changing, 512MB of RAM is very disappointing to see. While the device comes with Android 4.0 ICS on-board, the low RAM could also indicate the unavailability of a possible upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the future.
The Karbonn Smart A111 is set to take on other popular 5-inch dual-core smartphones such as the Lava IRIS 501, Intex Aqua 5.0, and the Micromax A100 Canvas. The Micromax A110 Canvas 2 is has a similar price tag, but boasts superior features. And of course, if an additional Rs 5,000 (~$100) is in your budget, I would definitely recommend going for the Micromax A116 Canvas HD, India’s first budget-friendly quad-core device.
If you’re still interested in picking up the Karbonn Smart A111, you can do so from online stores such as Flipkart.
What are your thoughts? Would you consider buying the latest smartphone offering from Karbonn, or would you rather hold out for the numerous low-cost quad-core devices that are sure to be released this year? Let us know in the comments section below
