LG’s smartphone market share got considerably boosted after the Nexus 4 and Optimus G hits, which made people wonder what will be the next steps for the Korean company. But then the slightly underwhelming Optimus G Pro came and it seemed like we were in for nothing more than some peace and quiet.
As it turns out, we were wrong. Or we might have been, based on a mysterious image posted on LG Mobile’s Facebook page. “New series will be unveiled” reads the text inside the pic, surrounded by what looks like a gift wrapping.
There’s an enigmatic message under the picture as well, telling us that LG has a surprise in store “with an unexpected distinction”. Now that’s hard to decipher. Or is it?
Well, we’re no CSI agents, but we’re almost certain LG’s teasing a new Optimus L line-up. After all, the first-gen L3, L5 and L7 were all unveiled in February 2012 at MWC, so the timing checks out.
But what exactly could we be seeing at this month’s MWC in Barcelona? Well, you can probably count on the recently uncovered Optimus L7 2 Dual to be on display, along with a single-SIM “sibling”. As you might remember, the follow-up to last year’s L7 is rumored to come packing a 1 GHz dual-core CPU, a 4.3-inch IPS display, Android 4.1 and a 2,460 mAh battery.
Based on that, we can assume some rehashes of the L3 and L5 are also coming, with slight spec bumps. All fine and dandy so far, but what about the “unexpected distinction”? Could that refer to a new design philosophy? Or should we also be prepared for a second-gen Optimus L9 with true flagship-like hardware beneath its hood?
Hard to believe, with the L9 being around for just three months, but the G Pro is also ready to hit the ground running very quickly after the first G. What do you guys think LG is prepping?OURCES Phone Arena LG Mobile (Facebook)
