Samsung Galaxy Win gets proper unveiling, Snapdragon 200 CPU confirmed

Last week has been a roller coaster ride of sorts for the Samsung Galaxy Win, a slightly underwhelming GS3 “clone” that got leaked Wednesday and became official in China the day after. And now the Win is back making the headlines, as Sammy has finally decided to properly unveil the phone.

You know, with a press release in English and the whole shebang, meaning the Galaxy Win won’t be an Asian-exclusive device, as some claimed. Then again, Samsung continues to be vague regarding Win’s availability, so we don’t know when and where we should expect to see it up for sale.
But before anything, let’s take a look at Galaxy Win’s spec sheet in its fullness:

• 4.7-inch TFT display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution and 199 ppi
• Quad-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A5-based Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 8225Q processor
• Adreno 203 GPU
• 1 GB of RAM
• 8 GB of internal storage
• MicroSD and microSDHC support for expanding the memory with up to 32 GB
• 5 MP rear-facing camera with LED, Auto focus, Burst mode and 15 fps video shooting
• 0.3 MP front-facing cam
• 2,000 mAh battery
• Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, GPS, A-GPS
• Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz on top
• 144 grams weight
• 133.3 x 70.7 x 9.65 mm dimensions
• Two colors: Ceramic White and Titan Grey
• Available in single and dual-SIM

The first thing one notices looking at the list of features is probably the Snapdragon 200 CPU. This is Qualcomm’s latest entry-level chip and it’s going to make its commercial debut inside the Galaxy Win.
We don’t expect to see it breaking any speed records though, and, to be frank, we’re a little disappointed that Samsung hasn’t at least gone the Snapdragon 400 way. The 400, if you don’t recall its introduction, is based on ARM’s Cortex-A7 and is to be coupled with an Adreno 305 GPU.
There are no other surprises in Win’s spec sheet, so what we have here is a modest, but hopefully budget-conscious Galaxy S3 lookalike. The large display will most likely be crippled by the low resolution, but the camera and battery are all in all respectable.
“Depending on the markets”, the Galaxy Win will come with single or dual-SIM support, so, if you had any doubt this fellow is targeted at emerging markets, this should make it clear once and for all. But will we also see it in North America? No idea yet. And how about pricing? How cheap does the Win have to be to pique your interest? $400 unlocked? $350? $300? You tell us.
