We  started off this week on Android Authority On Air discussing various app updates from the Android world. Chameleon, everyone’s favorite Kickstarter launcher received a nice update this week. Chameleon now has the ability to add custom wallpaper and you’ll be happy to know that more widgets are coming thanks to the recently implemented widget APIs. If you’re into “Pinning” things, the social network Pinterest launched their Android app this week. Google Maps received a hefty update, over 1 million public transit stops are now available along with improved displays for location history.
If you’re into applying filters to your photos, Instagram also received a hefty update this week adding Photo Maps and longer captions. Google+ got an update, you can now join Hangouts On Air via mobile. And last, but not least, Adobe Flash for Android is no longer available on the Google Play Store.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is rumored to get Jelly Bean very soon. To back that up, we saw an SGS3 Jelly Bean test ROM leak this week. Those of you rocking the SGS3 on Verizon can now rejoice thanks to an insecure bootloader leak. You can now unlock your Verizon Galaxy S3 bootloader with a 1 click app, from the Play Store. Don’t like a blue or white Galaxy S3? Samsung has you covered and plans on releasing a black version. Black plastic isn’t the biggest news though. Samsung plans on releasing a 64GB version of the Galaxy S3. So now we have phones with up to 128GB of storage, 4 core CPUs, 2 GB of RAM, and high speed LTE connections. Is that a server in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
Besides SGS3 leaks and bootloaders, we saw a decent amount of other headlines from the Rootin’ and ROMin’ front this week. If you’re a CyanogenMod fan, brace yourselves, CM10 nightlies have started for a number of devices. And, Motorola’s bootloader unlock page goes live for a few devices.
A new APK for the Google Play Store surfaced this week, after some digging we found out that Google Play would soon be getting gift cards. Then to back those findings up, some stores started to receive $10 and $25 gift cards for the Play Store. This. Is. Huge.
The Apple vs Samsung war still wages on and should be wrapping up very shortly. In a heated moment this week Judge Koh asked Apple lawyers if they were “smoking crack”. And finally, yes finally, Motorola (Google) seeks to ban the iPod, iPhone and iPad in the USA. Oh patent wars, you never cease to amaze us.
