A new Motorola dawn is rising as the company finally provides customers with an easy way to unshackle the bootloader chains on their devices. The official Unlock My Device website for Moto phones and tablets has just gone live.

Going to the website, you’d think that someone will use it to set off a nuclear bomb or something. Motorola makes it very, very clear that unlocking the device’s bootloaders may cause damage and void the warranty. But you don’t mind all those things, do you?
As listed on the page, here’s what you have to do before unlocking the device:
  • Check whether your device can be unlocked
  • Install fastboot and the Android SDK
  • Install the latest Motorola USB Drivers
  • Verify fastboot recognizes your device
  • Sign a warranty waiver and release
Obviously the first step is the most important one. So far, the following devices have been added to the Bootloader Unlock program:
  • Photon Q 4G LTE (Sprint)
  • Motorola Xoom (Verizon)
  • Motorola Xoom WiFi (Worldwide)
  • Motorola Razr developer edition (Europe)
It’s not that long of a list, we know, but it’s a good start for Motorola. We’re hoping more devices, like the Atrix HD, will be added in the coming days and weeks. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, any thoughts and comments about Motorola’s bootloader unlocking venture?
