After Roy got his picture taken and edited on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 this afternoon at the Samsung launch event, it was my turn to pose for a portrait. Samsung had about 4 stations with artists for drawing portraits, and I was lucky enough to get a chance to get in on one. I have the utmost respect for people who can draw freely, and I was thoroughly impressed. This was all done utilizing the Adobe Photoshop Touch app that comes pre-installed on the Note 10.1. Again it’s S Pen optimized so there is no shortage of things you can do with this app. If you can imagine it, you can probably do it.

Google set to release Google Maps app update, adds public transit improvements

On the Google Lat Long blog, Google Maps Software Engineer Christopher Van Der Westhuizen announced a pending update to the Google Maps for Android app. Over the years, Google has amassed a huge database of public transit information. They have now collected information on schedules from around the world covering over 1 million stops. The systems are located in over 500 cities, including places like New York City, London, Tokyo and Sydney. Today’s announcement includes improvements for accessing this data on mobile devices.

The inevitable has happened, Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S III’s bootloader has been unlocked

The second I saw this story on the XDA thread, I envisioned many Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III users giving Verizon the proverbial middle finger. This locked bootloader issue with Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S III has certainly made a full circle. It started off with many angry customers when Verizon formally announced that the bootloader will be locked on their Galaxy S III, but soon after there was hope as a couple of miss-informed Verizon and Samsung reps told various people that an update for the S III would be out soon that would unlock the bootloader. Verizon quickly denied that rumor and left us all with the hopes of XDA soon finding a way to crack Verizon’s lock on the bootloader.

Hands on with Adobe Photoshop Touch on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 – Part 1 – Editing a Picture [Video]

We’ve seen a lot of demos, but rarely do we actually get to be part of them. Today Samsung was showing off the prowess of the Galaxy Note 10.1, and specifically the Adobe Photoshop Touch app that comes pre-installed. It also happens to be S Pen optimized so you can really push it to the limits. They took a picture of our own Roy Alugbue and cropped him out, added a background, and made various adjustments. Get your hands on some great games with Humble Bundle for Android 3 [Video]

I can only speak for Fieldrunners as that’s the only game I’ve played out of the group, but I can assure you that these are all quality games that these independent developers have worked hard on. Even more amazing is that these are all cross platform games that will also work on Linux, Windows or Mac computers. Android 4.1 TouchWiz Jelly Bean spotted running on Samsung Galaxy S III (i9300) [Video]

Back in July, we reported that we should all expect Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to hit the Samsung Galaxy S III sometime in Q4. It looks like Samsung is very well on that track as a leaked version of a TouchWiz based Jelly Bean ROM (XADLG4) has been spotted running on a Galaxy S III (i9300). As you can see in the video below, you’re greeted with the standard Jelly Bean intro and you soon see all of Jelly Bean’s goodness paired with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. Some notable things that I liked seeing were the presence of notification toggles in the new Jelly Bean style notification shade, as well as Google Now. I can only hope that Samsung got rid of that horrid S-Voice app in Jelly Bean now that Google Now is present.

XDA member bongostl has posted a step-by-step guide for modifying your Nexus 7, or any tablet for that matter, to enable outgoing and incoming calls through Google Voice. Verizon releases HTC Rezound focused music video of flash mob

In commemoration of the availability of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the HTC Rezound, Verizon Wireless released a video on YouTube to celebrate the end of the long wait. The video is a cross between a music video and a flash mob. The storyline follows a buyer of a new HTC Rezound as she walks and dances her way through city streets unaware of a mob of dancers following behind her. The “flash mob” comes to an end when the main character receives a phone call. I’m not really sure this is effective advertising for Verizon. CTIA announces MobileCON 2012, the next version of Enterprise & App conference

CTIA announced a “new” conference coming up in October, MobileCON 2012. The event is the successor to their Enterprise & Application conference and moves the focus to the mobile enterprise. According to Robert Mesirow, vice president and show director for CTIA, “The show is specifically designed for wireless and IT professionals who are serious about enterprise mobility, networks and applications, regardless of their industry.” Attendees will have the opportunity to access industry leaders and exhibitors who will provide information on subjects like security, the cloud, mCommerce, and M2M. Samsung begins arguments, Shows how Apple stole from LaunchTile and DiamondTouch table

Apple closed their case so it’s Samsung’s turn to be a little offensive, and to kick things off, they decided to show a couple of early 2000s gesture technologies, LaunchTile and DiamondTouch.
LaunchTile was co-created by Benjamin Bederson who took the stand as a “fact witness” for Samsung. It was for Microsoft’s PocketPC devices and became available in 2004. EA includes Android in new platforms for Origin app

Origin was first announced for the Mac OS X platform as part of EA’s release of SimCity for the Mac. Gartner Reports Global Sales Drop 2.3 Percent For Q2 2012, But Samsung And Android Still Lead Overall Sales

Smartphones are as popular as ever, but it doesn’t mean sales can’t take a slight hit. Gartner reports overall global sales for Q2 2012 dropped 2.3 percent compared to Q2 2011. The Android platform unsurprisingly accounted for 64.1 percent of the overall sales with Samsung leading the way with 90.4 million units sold, while Nokia and Apple followed behind.
