Earlier today we heard that the U.S. Galaxy S3 versions will only get their Jelly Bean updates in 2013, or at least most of them, but now we have an official press release from Samsung to shed more light on the upgrade process in the region.

The U.S. is a very important market for Samsung, and we’re probably looking at significant Galaxy S3 sales in America. But that doesn’t mean Samsung and/or U.S. carriers are ready to offer a fast Jelly Bean upgrade for the flagship device.
In fact, today’s press release doesn’t offer any actual launch dates for the U.S. Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean roll outs. The handset is available from five carriers including Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular, so each one will have its own Jelly Bean launch schedule.
If you ask Samsung, the update is going to be available “in the coming months,” but considering that we’re past mid-October already, we wouldn’t be surprised if today’s earlier report would turn out to be true, at least for some mobile operators. According to that story, only Sprint would upgrade its Galaxy S3 version this year, while everyone else would get Android 4.1.1 at some point in 2013. “Coming months” could still mean early 2013, because neither Samsung nor the carriers are willing to specify when it will all happen:
The update will be made available both over the air and as a download via Kies, Samsung’s content sync and software update solution. The specific timing and update method will be announced by each carrier partner, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular.
Moreover, considering that Google is expected to unveil its fourth-generation Nexus handset right alongside a new Android version in the following weeks, chances are that the U.S. Galaxy S3 will still run Ice Cream Sandwich by the time Android 4.2 becomes official and even rolls out to certain Nexus devices.
Meanwhile, more international Galaxy S3 units are getting Android 4.1.1 as we speak. Thoughts?
