Sony Xperia E and E Dual are now official, coming in Q1 2013 with low-end specs

Sony’s Xperia naming frenzy is far from completion and, with enough unused letters of the alphabet to last the company at least one more year, it’s now time to meet the E. Officially meet that is, because the low-ender already got an unofficial introduction back in October.
As suspected, the Xperia E will be made available in two versions, one more standard with a single SIM card slot and one with dual SIM functionality. Both the E and E Dual are bound to get an “early 2013” release, though an exact ETA is still covered in mystery.

With pricing also unknown, we’re left guessing, which shouldn’t be a very hard task. This little guy is an almost perfect doppelganger of the recently released Xperia J, only with worse specs and a smaller display. That means the single-SIM Xperia E is to cost $200 contract-free at the most while its dual-SIM counterpart could go for 20 bucks or so more.
But will the E be worth the $200? Looking at the 3.5-inch HVGA display with 480 x 320 pixels resolution or the single-core 1 GHz Snapdragon MSM7227A CPU, you might be inclined to say no. You might even be inclined to say hell no upon hearing about the 3.2 MP rear-facing shooter, but hold your horses, will you?

The Xperia E is planned to launch with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board, which is not a surprise, but a huge shocker. We don’t know how will that hardware handle JB’s treats and buttery smoooth interface and if this is the wisest choice, but we’ll tell you this – we are intrigued.
We’re also pretty excited about a few other treats Sony is preparing to fill this little guy with, including HD Voice, Walkman xLOUD technology for “optimal sound quality” and DLNA. As for the rest of the features, they’re not too hot and include a 1,500 mAh battery, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal memory and microSD support.
Finally, as far as design goes, the E takes upon the J not only in good ways, but also in bad. At 115 grams, the 3.5-incher is definitely on the chunky side, but if it’s any consolation the low-ender will come not only in classic black, but also in stylish white and snazzy pink (though that last one looks more red to us). Any takers?
