Aside from being a smartphone manufacturer, Samsung has been marketing its own brand of digital cameras for some time now. Before the introduction of their latest Samsung Galaxy smart camera, there were the various point-and-shoot and prosumer models, such as the NX series, EX series, WP, among others.
Samsung is, after all, a Chaebol — meaning a South Korean conglomerate that produces products and renders services across different industries. For Samsung, this includes televisions, mobile phones, refrigerators, air conditioners and even heavy equipment. Samsung even makes ships in Korea. So with all their resources, Samsung can easily arrive at synergy between different product lines. It was only a matter of time until its digital imaging and mobile divisions got together and make a mashup that we know now as the Galaxy Camera.
And so that’s the story behind the Samsung Galaxy Camera: according to a feature on Samsung Tomorrow, what the the company did was “bring together its leading technologies to create new, innovative products.”
Each department played their part, with Digital Imaging handling the “optical technologies” such as crafting the lens and sensor, and Mobile demonstrating their expertise in wireless connectivity as well as the Android platform.Samsung actually saw the trend in digital camera users wanting to take pictures, edit and share right away, instead of having to print photos and store these on physical albums. As such, the Galaxy Camera emphasizes instant photo sharing through WiFi or cellular networks.
