Samsung and Verizon Wireless have recently announced that the Verizon-exclusive Samsung Galaxy Stellar will launch on Sept. 6 (this Thursday). Although the Samsung Galaxy Stellar isn’t exactly stellar in any particular way, it is one of the cheapest 4G-enabled handsets that you can get from Big Red.
Previously rumored to be priced at $99 on-contract, the Galaxy Stellar will actually be offered for free by Verizon following a $50 mail-in rebate (if you opt to sign a new two-year contract). When it comes to the off-contract price, all we can do is point out towards a leaked Best Buy page for the Galaxy Stellar, one that mentioned a price of $449.
A quick look at the Galaxy Stellar specs sheet shows nothing really impressive, but this does comes of no surprise considering that this is an entry-level Android smartphone. Here are the specs:
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (no word yet on a possible update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean)
- 4-inch display running at a 800 x 480 pixel resolution
- 233 Pixel Per Inch (PPI) density
- 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor
- 3.2MP primary camera
- 1.3MP secondary camera
- MicroSD card slot (supports cards up to 32GB in size)
- Wi-Fi
- Google Play access, Google Mobile support
- A suite of popular Amazon apps
Another interesting thing about this smartphone is that it is a “Samsung Approved for Enterprise” (SAFE) device, meaning it comes with AES-256 bit encryption, as well as support for Virtual Private Network, Mobile Device Management and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
What is your opinion on the Verizon-exclusive Samsung Galaxy Stellar? Does its low price and 4G capabilities out-balance its low- to mid-range specs? Drop a comment in the section below and share a thought, won’t you ?
