Motorola Droid Razr and Razr Maxx owners have seen their devices upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich about six months ago. ICS was thought to be the end of the update road for the phones, but Moto’s revised Jelly Bean upgrade schedule suggests otherwise.
What can be considered as a holiday miracle, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Droid Razr and the Droid Razr Maxx was pushed out by Verizon on Christmas Eve, only for the carrier to pull it thereafter. Some folks were able to download the whole software package (331.7MB in size) and install Jelly Bean on their phones, while some reported an update failure. If you never saw the update notification, chances are you’ve missed the boat.
If you want to make the jump to Android 4.1, you can head to the following XDA thread to download the software update manually. You should be able to flash the file in stock recovery. Make sure you back up everything first and proceed only at your own risk.
There’s still hope that Verizon will resume and complete the Jelly Bean roll-out for Moto’s Droid Razr and Razr Maxx before the end of the year. Rest assured, we’ll keep you posted. Thrilled about JB making it to your device? Did anyone manage to get the update? Hit the comments below.
