Take with a pinch of salt, but a Brazilian site may have just produced the first evidence that Android 4.2.2 is about to be released.
Here’s the story – Adrenaline.com.br came up with two pictures of a Nexus 4 device that was allegedly manufactured in Brazil and runs Android 4.2.2. According to the site, LG has begun manufacturing Google devices in Brazil on January 5, which means that the phone in the photographs could be one of the first to leave the assembly line. LG has a factory that makes cell phones in Taubate, a city near San Paolo. The Nexus 4 has been approved by Anatel, the local communications regulator in December, meaning that it can be legally sold in Brazil.
One of the images shows the Nexus 4 in its box, while the other is a shot of the phone’s About menu that shows that the Android version is Android 4.2.2.
It’s relatively easy to manipulate an image like this, and the two shots are a bit too blurry, especially considering that the EXIF data show that they were taken with a relatively good Sony DSC-H50 camera. And there’s the specular reflection that conveniently blurs the version number. But the simplest way to mess with the version number would be to simply edit a file called build.prop.
On the other hand, it would make sense for the spanking new phones that LG is making in Brazil to run the very latest version of Android.
Fishy? A bit, but that doesn’t mean that Google isn’t working on Android 4.2.2. Users reported many bugs on the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10, some of which (including the embarrassing missing December one) Google has fixed in Android 4.2.1. A new revision is very likely at some point in the future.
