With so many state of the art Full HD quad-core “beasts” coming out of this year’s CES, many of you might have missed the intro of the “modest” Pantech Discover. The AT&T-bound handheld only has a 720p screen, a dual-core CPU and Android 4.0 ICS, but we’re here to tell (and show) you this is not a device that will get lost in the crowd.

Our own Derek Ross got some quality time with the Pantech Discover in Las Vegas, and what he discovered is that this is anything, but a run-of-the-mill smartphone. The first thing that is bound to grab your attention is the unique design employed by Pantech in order to make this look as special as possible.
Now, the 4.8-incher is definitely not a little fellow, but the curvaceous body certainly makes it seem like one thin and slim slab of silicon. And slim it is, weighing in at 135 grams and measuring just 9.1 mm in depth, all while keeping a premium and solid overall figure.
From here on, we might as well let Derek Ross do the talking, along with his guest in Vegas, the charming marketing manager of Pantech, Chandra Thompson (lucky guy, that Derek):

Here’s the full spec sheet of the Discover too if you happened to miss the announcement from the other day and you’re just too lazy to go through a three minute and a half video:
  • 4.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution and 306 ppi
  • Dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 CPU
  • Adreno 225 GPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 16 GB of internal memory
  • MicroSD support for expanding the storage with an additional 32 GB
  • Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 2,100 mAh battery rated at 10 hours of talk time and 430 hours of stand-by
  • 12.6 MP rear-facing camera
  • 2 MP front-facing cam
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0
  • NFC, DLNA
  • HSDPA, HSUPA, LTE
  • Dual 3D surround sound
  • AT&T DriveMode app pre-loaded
  • Full VPN and EAS support
The Pantech Discover will land on AT&T on January 11 (this Friday) and it will cost $49.99 with a two-year contract or $399 outright. Don’t know about you, but I’m actually considering getting one, as the price-quality ratio feels just right. Do you agree?
