Earlier this month, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Huawei announced their first 1080p smartphone, the Ascend D2. The phone has a five inch screen, quad core Huawei manufactured 1.5 GHz processor, 13 megapixel camera, and a 3,000 mAh battery.
Why is Huawei launching two phones with the exact same spec sheet? Your guess is as good as ours. Sony did the same thing at CES this year with the Z and ZL. Same phone, but one is waterproof and thin, while the other doesn’t have either of those features.
When will this phone come out and how much is it going to cost? Knowing Huawei, this device is going to be damn near impossible to find in the states. It’ll probably be a little bit easier to find in Europe, but honestly, we all know that this thing is meant for the Asian market. It’ll likely come in at around 400 EUR, but that’s just a guess based on no evidence whatsoever.
Should you care about this thing? Yes, you should, because the P2 is basically a message to people in the Far East that says you don’t need to buy an iPhone or a Galaxy in order to have a good smartphone experience. Sure, there have been other successful Huawei Android smartphones in the past, but the P2 looks like it’s going to be a home run.
