Skype update adds portrait calling on tablets, other improvements

If you like to use Skype on your Android tablet, you’ve probably enjoyed the last major update that the Android app received back in November, which – among other things — introduced a whole new tablet UI.

While the tablet-optimized interface is a welcome addition, it’s not without its flaws. For instance, it doesn’t let users run the app in portrait mode. Fortunately, Skype has released an update to partially fix this “problem”.
Skype version 3.1, which is available to download now from Google Play, still forces you to use the app only in landscape mode, but it now allows you to make calls in portrait mode. Aside from the usual performance enhancements and fixes, it also adds localization to Portuguese, Norwegian, and English (UK).
Some bugs that have been squashed include the following:

• Problem of answering incoming calls with locked screen on Android 4.1
• Proximity sensor error on Android 4.2
• Incoming call screen not properly aligned on Galaxy Nexus
• App occasionally crashed when put to background on Android 4.1 and 4.2
