Google chairman Eric Schmidt has seemingly put an end to rumors claiming that the Chrome and Android operating systems would become a single entity in the future.
Speaking at the Big Tent conference in New Delhi, Schmidt said that Chrome and Android would remain separate products. Still, he did leave some room for the two worlds to interact, saying that there could be more ‘commonality’ between the two.
According to Indian portal First Post (source link below), Schmidt said that the decision regarding Chrome and Android is not made in relation to the person heading them.
So, will Chrome OS run Android applications in the future? If Eric Schmidt knows, he’s most certainly not telling us now, so speculations can continue.
Rumors about Google merging Chrome and Android have started being noisier when Sundar Pichai, senior vice president for Chrome and Google Apps at Google, has added Android to his responsibilities. This happened as Andy Rubin, the previous head of Android, has decided to pursue new projects at Google.
How do you think the “commonality” between the two systems could work?
