Tired of waiting for your contract to expire before you can get your hands on the latest smartphone? We’ve already heard that T-Mobile is pondering the best way to help customers with this irritating problem, but O2 has beaten them to the punch with its new O2 Refresh tariff.
Today O2 has announced its O2 Refresh plan, which will offer customers the opportunity to grab a new phone when they want, without having to wait out or break their existing contract. Instead customers will only have to pay the remaining balance for their existing handset.
This whole system works by separating the price of your handset from your call and data plan, in place of a standard contract you’ll have to sign up for a separate Phone and Airtime Plan. So if you decide you want a new handset you can simply pay off the remaining balance on the Phone Plan and terminate your Airtime Plan without charge, sounds easy.
O2 is offering a choice of three O2 Refresh Airtime Plans, which last for 24 months. For £12 a month customers get 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of data, for £17 customers will receive unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data, and for £22 you’ll be given unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 2GB worth of data.
At launch, O2 Refresh will only be available on a selection of handsets, including the HTC One, Sony Xperia Z, Blackberry Z10, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Apple iPhone 5. O2 intends to expand the range of phones in the future, and plans to include the Samsung Galaxy S4 in the deal as well.
As a bonus for those looking to change up regularly, you can also exchange your current handset for cash, receiving up to £260 to put towards a new handset.
As an O2 customers myself, I’ll certainly be considering this tariff when I feel the need to update my Galaxy S2. O2 Refresh will be available in stores across the UK from April 16th.
