With a population of over 113 million people, but a smartphone adoption rate of just 20%, it was obvious Mexico needed some strong pushes from its wireless carriers, but also from the world’s major device manufacturers to get over its emerging status and start becoming a true force.
One such major push was the speeding up of connection speeds, from the age old 3G and HSPA+ to 4G LTE. Now the switch has been turned on, and the first smartphone to take advantage of the new and improved network is Motorola’s Razr HD, known in the States as the Droid Razr HD.
Moto’s high-end handheld is up for grabs from Telcel, Mexico’s largest carrier with around 67 million customers, and if LTE speeds aren’t enough to make people want the 4.7-incher, the price makes it a shoe-in deal.
Until November 21, Mexicans will be able to get the Kevlar backed device for free with Telcel’s 1000 Plus Plan upon signing a new 2-year agreement. Ay caramba! We don’t know what’ll happen after the 21st, but it’s obvious if anyone’s thinking of buying the Razr HD, now’s the time to act!
Just like the Droid Razr HD, the Mexican edition has Android 4.0 ICS out of the box (upgradeable “soon” to Jelly Bean), a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 pix res, a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of on-board storage, an “all-day” 2,530 mAh battery, NFC, an 8 MP rear-facing camera, Wi-Fi, DLNA, and microSD support.
The entire package is wrapped in splash-resistant Kevlar coating, weighing in at 146 grams. I said it once, and I’ll say it again – ay caramba!
