Some good news came yesterday for owners of Motorola devices. First, the mid-sized Razr M got a tasty treat in the form of an Android Jelly Bean 4.1 update. Yes, it’s “just” 4.1, but you didn’t really expect to get 4.2 even before the Nexus 4 was launched, did you?
The second piece of good news is the announcement of Test Drive, a program that will allow regular Motorola users to try out various Android updates before they are rolled out to the public. In a post on the company’s corporate blog, product manager Punit Soni revealed that the Test Drive will be made available to all those interested, but only “a few hundred customers” will receive the preview build for each update. The program will be launched with Android 4.2, and more details, including how to sign up, will be revealed by Motorola in the coming days.
The Test Drive program won’t be an absolute premiere, as Motorola and other manufacturers are known to have offered previews to so called “soak testers” ahead of software updates. Still, it’s good to see that Motorola is trying to be more open about its update efforts, and I think that its Google overlords might have something to do with this newfound openness.
Will you sign up for Motorola’s Test Drive once details are announced? Do you enjoy living on the bleeding edge, or you’re more of a follower?
